Founded on a Commitment to Life Safety
Passive First has been delivering passive fire system solutions to the fire protection
industry since 2009. Over this time, we have built a strong reputation for excellence,
reliability, and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes for our clients.
Our in-house experts draw on extensive knowledge of Australian Standards and
approved fire-stopping products and systems, enabling us to support our clients in
achieving and maintaining compliance.

Passive First’s team of accredited practitioners offers a comprehensive range of
services, including the installation and certification of fire seals and fire damper
systems, annual maintenance inspections, audits, and the preparation of asset
registers across all building types.
Rodney Carney
Co-Founder & Director
Rodney is not just a director and co-founder of Passive First, he is also our expert project manager, ensuring all projects are delivered and deadlines met.
After entering the construction industry in the electrical trade in 1993, Rodney moved to installing firestop systems in 2002. He discovered his natural affinity for fire protection to then progressed into project management.
He gained extensive experience as a project manager to then co-found Passive First in 2009, continuing his growth with experience gained in the Building industry.
At Passive First you will find Rodney overseeing and inspiring our in-house team of technicians. He is responsible for identifying improvements, implementing processes, and introducing technical efficiencies that ensure the Passive First team consistently construct high quality installations that meet the Australian Standards.
Aldo Pena
Co-Founder & Director
Aldo is a director and co-founder of Passive First. Aldo has unrivalled knowledge of firestop systems that comply with the Australian Standards and is a qualified Competent Fire Safety Practitioner (CFSP).
Since 1997 Aldo has focussed his career on learning about how firestop systems work, how they are manufactured and installed and why they are required in buildings. His passion for this has led him to acquire various qualifications in fire protection and construction management. Aldo is continually striving to keep his knowledge up to date and constantly reviews updates to the standards, manufacturers test and data sheets and seeks out new products and systems.
At Passive, First Aldo endorses firestop safety measures and completes compliance checks on any building that contains a firestop system as well as inspecting and assessing firestop measures such as fire seals, fire dampers, lightweight construction, access panels and door hoppers. He is also responsible for overseeing an in-house team of firestop inspectors and providing technical support and training to his staff. If any of his clients are passionate about improving their own knowledge and understanding of passive fire systems, then he will gladly help with training and advice.
